Use cases
Three ways to narrow your choice
Time and planning
Toggl / Clockify
Compare timers, team reports and planning. Invoicing and budget functions depend on the offering and plan.
Project billing
Clockodo / Harvest / MOCO
Check the handover to your invoicing tool or billing in the same application. Planning also matters for teams.
Connected workflow
Klausi / Papierkram
Check how clients, projects, time and invoices work together. Klausi and Papierkram have different areas of focus.
Check whether the workflow from time to project to billing fits your work.
Explore Klausi time trackingThe workflow that fits
For freelancers, what matters is how a tracked hour reaches a project and then an invoice. Start with your actual workflow: do you need a timer alongside your accounting software, or do you want to manage several steps in one application?
This comparison is written by the Klausi team. Klausi is our own product. Sources were reviewed on 22 October 2026. We use official provider information and documented Klausi functions. We have not performed a complete hands-on test of every plan. We therefore give no overall score or universal winner.
7 tools by use case
The table describes documented areas of focus. It is not a complete feature inventory. An unmentioned feature is not necessarily absent. The linked sources describe the relevant plan coverage.
Choose for your workflow. A plan feature is not a general measure of quality.
| Tool | Consider it when … | Check before choosing | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Klausi | you want to connect clients, projects, tasks and time, and import project time into invoice drafts. | Free includes time tracking and basic projects. Invoicing and the CRM pipeline are Pro features. | Klausi pricing |
| Toggl / Toggl Track | you want to compare time tracking with tasks, boards and project planning. | Distinguish the current Toggl offering from existing Track plans. Team reports and billing depend on the plan. | Toggl pricing |
| Clockify | you want time tracking and team reports with optional invoicing and budget controls. | Invoicing is listed from Standard. Budgets and other management functions depend on the plan. | Clockify pricing |
| Clockodo | you want to analyze client and project time and send invoice items to an existing invoicing tool. | Project time and attendance tracking are separate offerings. Check the invoicing integration you need. | Clockodo pricing |
| Harvest | you want to work with time, expenses and invoices together. | Free is limited to one person and two projects. Check usage-based extras on paid plans too. | Harvest pricing |
| MOCO | you want project controlling and billing for agency or consulting workflows. | Compare Core with Pro. Capacity planning and leads are listed in Pro. | MOCO pricing |
| Papierkram | you want to connect project time with accounting, quotes and invoices. | The feature list distinguishes Free, S, M and L. Check time-to-invoice import in your chosen plan. | Papierkram pricing |

Timer, invoices or project management
If your accounting setup is already established, check the handover first. Clockodo describes sending invoice items to other invoicing tools. That may fit an existing system. Test client assignment, hourly rates and the time report.
If you want to create invoices in the same application, consider Clockify, Harvest, MOCO and Papierkram alongside Klausi. Compare the actual plan and required invoice formats. Invoicing and full accounting are different requirements.
For team planning, capacity, approvals and roles also matter. Toggl describes planning in its current offering. MOCO lists capacity planning in Pro. For a team, these requirements may matter more than a long list of equally weighted features.
Klausi Free and Pro
Time tracking, tasks and basic client and project management are included in Free. Projects and other functions have allowance limits.
Creating, exporting and sending invoices, and using the CRM pipeline, require Pro or an active Pro trial. Editing the finance dashboard and advanced reports also depend on the plan. Choose the appropriate access for the full workflow through to invoicing.
The Klausi pricing page describes current coverage. Check the trial, billing period and allowances there too. A free timer does not mean every later administration function is also free.
Browser, Mac app and offline work
Klausi works in a browser and also has a Mac app. The download page lists the current Mac download and its system requirements.
A desktop app and a complete offline workflow are separate properties. If you need to work without a connection, test starting the timer, saving, reconnecting and synchronization on your device. This comparison does not promise a complete offline workflow for Klausi.
Check those steps with other providers too. The supported workflow on your operating system matters more than an app icon in a comparison table.
Example: client → project → time → invoice draft
An illustrative example with fictional data: Studio Example commissions a small design project. This is not a real customer case, a testimonial or evidence of time savings.
Prerequisites: an existing client, an assigned project, a service with an agreed hourly rate, and completed billable time entries. The invoice step requires Pro or an active Pro trial. The interface labels below refer to the German application.
For two sample entries and a worked amount, read From time tracking to invoice draft: a practical example.
The example is fictional. It describes a workflow and provides no evidence of customer experience or time savings.
- Client: create Studio Example as a client. Assign the project “Example design” to that client.
- Project: assign the agreed service and hourly rate. This keeps the billing context with the time entries.
- Time: track the work against the project and service. Stop the timer and check the description, duration and billable setting.
- Invoice draft: open a new draft and choose “Import aus Projekt” (import from project). Select the project and date range. Import the appropriate entries individually or grouped.
- Review: compare the imported hours and hourly rate with the source entries. Check the recipient, service period and preview. Finalizing and sending are separate steps.
Compare with a sample project
Create the same anonymous sample job in two suitable tools. Track a short work session, correct an entry and prepare billing. Check the result through to an invoice or a handover to your accounting software.
Record open questions: which plan is needed? Which data must you enter again? Which formats does your client require? What happens after a correction or without internet? This evaluates the workflow you will actually use.
If the connected workflow suits you, explore Klausi time tracking, projects and finance.
